It seems the era of the e-scooter may be coming to an end for riders in London with Met police now seizing the eco friendly transportation.
In a tweet Met Cycle cops announced the seizure of 8 e-scooters in the central London are.
Unbeknownst to many e-scooters under UK law, are only permitted to be ridden on private land with the landowner’s permission. It is actually an offence to ride them in public – including on paths, pavements and roads.
E-scooters fall within the legal definition of a ‘motor vehicle’ in the UK and must follow the laws applicable to motor vehicles under the Road Traffic Act 1988.
If you’re caught riding an e-scooter without insurance you could receive an on-the-spot fine of £300 and six penalty points. Riding without a licence could see you fined up to £1,000 and given points, the Metropolitan Police has said.
With the increasing popularity of electronic scooters there has been a call for new regulations. So until then you run the risk of seizures, fines and points on your license for riding them.
